As we gradually approach the Thanksgiving season (soon enough), I find it’s important to reflect on what we’re thankful for right now. As the season continues to unfold, I would like to take a moment to appreciate the passion and dedication of those who have been shining on the field in recent weeks.
As the season progresses, a group of rising rookies emerge as the heartbeat of the team, showcasing their potential to shape the franchise’s future. With standout performances and an undeniable drive, these young athletes are not just filling roster spots; they are redefining the team's identity. Their combination of raw talent and tireless work ethic has generated buzz among fans and coaches, signaling a bright path ahead. As they continue to gain experience and confidence, these rookies are set to become the foundation of a new era, ready to guide the team toward future triumphs and elevate its position in the league.

Jalen Coker
My personal favorite has to be the undrafted rookie, Mr. Jalen Coker—yes, "Mister" because we show respect around here! Where do I begin with this young man? He’s recently stepped into the spotlight due to Adam’s injuries and Mingo’s struggles to make plays. Even before the great Steve Smith Sr. praised Jalen's route running, I was already impressed by his performance at Holy Cross. In four games played, Coker has recorded 8 receptions on 9 targets for 108 yards.

Xavier Legette
After scoring two spectacular touchdowns this season, this cowboy has delighted fans by riding his imaginary horse out of the end zone, a playful celebration that perfectly embodies his spirit. Xavier currently boasts 18 receptions for 177 yards. While these numbers may not rank among the highest for a rookie in the league, witnessing the talent of our first-round draft pick is truly refreshing, especially knowing he could become one of the faces of Carolina’s future. You might not fully grasp his style or understand what he is saying, but it’s hard not to appreciate this guy’s infectious enthusiasm.
When I envision the future of our wide receiver room, I picture XL and Coker as our dynamic one-two punch, reminiscent of the dual-threat days we had with Muhsin Muhammad and Steve Smith. Meanwhile, Adam Thielen would fit perfectly into the role of our reliable Ricky Proehl.

Ja’Tavion Sanders
Sanders adds a receiver-like dimension to the tight end position for the Panthers, which is a welcome asset at a time when the team needs reliable targets. This versatility is one of the reasons I appreciated Jordan Matthews in a similar role. Ja’Tavion has faced some challenges with penalties, but I truly believe he has the potential to become a great tight end. This season, Ja’Tavion has recorded 19 receptions for 151 yards. Ja’Tavion, please become our next Greg Olsen.

Trevin Wallace
Trevin has participated in all seven games this season and has recently boosted his stock significantly. With 34 tackles to his name, including 23 solo efforts, he’s making a mark. While it’s no secret that Carolina’s defense is currently struggling, Trevin is a shining example of rookies rising to the occasion during tough times. His breakout performance came against the Bears, and with Shaq out again and Josey Jewell sidelined, Trevin is a valuable asset to have. It may be hard to believe, but the rookie is calling plays for the Carolina Panthers defense with a multitude of starters sidelined due to injury. I hope Luke and Thomas Davis step in to mentor him, helping to inject some much needed "keep pounding" spirit back into the defense.
Also worth mentioning, the Carolina Panthers’ second round pick, RB Jonathon Brooks, has yet to make his debut and is set to return in the coming weeks. Also, fifth round pick, CB Chau Smith-Wade, has emerged as the starting nickel for the Panthers. While the team has a long way to go, it appears that Dan Morgan might’ve struck gold with his first official draft class.
In the midst of disappointment and sadness surrounding the team, there’s a glimmer of hope in the emergence of our young players. As we examine the roles these athletes are playing, it becomes clear just how vital they are to the Carolina Panthers rebuilding process. Their potential to make impactful contributions not only invigorates the current roster but also lays the groundwork for a brighter future. This youthful energy and talent represent a true foundation worth building on, suggesting that while the challenges may be significant, the promise of what’s to come is equally compelling.

Very well written and an enjoyable read! Love to see these guys making a difference!
Great perspective, Corey. Thanks for highlighting these rising young players and the impact they are already having. Hopefully Coach Canales is another young star who is shaping the performance and attitudes of these guys - and staying poised in the face of real adversity. Forged in the fire of those challenges will hopefully be lots of growth for the team and franchise.
