The Charlotte Hornets’ 124–97 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder felt like more than just a surprising upset. It looked like a team finally realizing what it is capable of. Going into the home of the defending champions and dominating from start to finish showed a level of focus and belief that has not always been there this season. Charlotte took control in the second quarter and never let the Thunder find a rhythm, snapping Oklahoma City’s 24 game winning streak against Eastern Conference opponents and holding one of the league’s best offenses to its lowest scoring output of the year. Wins like this can change a season if the Hornets allow it to.
Brandon Miller was the clear offensive leader, finishing as the game’s top scorer and setting the tone with his confidence from deep. His seven made three pointers stretched the floor and forced Oklahoma City into constant adjustments. Kon Knueppel was right there with him, knocking down shots all night and punishing defensive mistakes with timely shooting. With contributions from across the lineup, the Hornets played free and connected basketball, making it difficult for the Thunder to key in on any one option.

The defensive effort was just as important, especially on the perimeter. Sion James and Collin Sexton brought nonstop energy, hounding ball handlers and disrupting Oklahoma City’s flow. Their pressure led to rushed shots and broken possessions, and it spread throughout the team. Charlotte’s defense fed its offense, and that commitment on both ends showed this group can win games when effort and accountability are there.

LaMelo Ball added the moment everyone will remember, hitting a ridiculous one-legged shot that perfectly captured the Hornets’ confidence on the night. Beyond the highlight, he controlled the game and kept teammates involved. If this win truly lights a fire, Charlotte has a real chance to build momentum and make a play in push. The challenge now is doing it consistently, but this performance showed the Hornets have more in them than their record suggests.
